I've seen similar problem on a couple different ford trucks (both mid 90's) where ecm was the culprit. Problem is always the time it takes to access this stuff to do the testing. And of course, intermittent faults are a nightmare. Time and tools... why I get paid the big bucks... : )
The other thing I meant to follow up on.... I checked the trans fluid level in park (improperly) on the 2001 and it too caused lots of bubbles on the fluid besides reading full. I'm such a GM (and Toyota) (and VW) guy... got to remember that sometimes checking in Park is not right! |

Air in the fluid when you have the pan off take a socket and ratchet to the valve body to see if any of the bolts are loose do not try to turn them more than a pinky finger in strength it may have a bad gasket or may need rebuilding but I have my fingers crossed for you.
