rear main seal leaking
chrysler concord lxi 2001, rear main seal leaking, how or what to do to repair and how would it possibly cost?

Seal is cheap but the transmission needs to come out for the replacement so the job is mostly labor. (might be some replacement fluids involved afterward too)
If you are asking about cost I must presume you are not doing it yourself so probably best to make a few phone calls to local shops. BTW, there are several reasons for rear engine seal leaks and one of them includes excessive internal wear. (probably not what you wanted to hear) On the flip side there are also reasons that do not require major labor, such as a clogged breather system building pressure, which causes oil to leak wherever it can get out. Fix that problem and your leak may go away. My personal approach would be to completely clean the engine / trans and take a fresh look in a day or so. IOW, it may not be the rear seal at all but something higher up (valve cover?) that just drips from that area as it works it's way toward the ground. Good luck and let us know what you find! Rupe |
