2007 s60 2.5T code poo27

a poo27 code comes up it says exhaust valve control solenoid circuit range/performance Bank 1....... is that something i could fix or does a garage need to fix it? i know alittle about working on things but new to volvo.

Haven't worked on a Volvo in years so I had to do a little research. What I found suggests a combination of things, usually having to do with not changing the oil often enough. IOW, sludge build up. Seems there are two solenoids (intake and exhaust) and they control the variable valve timing. They can either fail electrically or get gummed up.

I put some seafoam in the fuel and oil and cleared the code. seems to have fixed it. no check engine light coming on. thanks for the help....

The follow up to the seafoam is to change the oil soon.
