2013 VW Jetta Dented Transmission Pan
Hi guys,

Quick question, went to take my 2013 2.5L Jetta Comfortline in for a Safety Inspection and I was told my Transmission Pan is dented and I should replace it. I am being quoted about $1000 to do the work with parts included. Based on the pictures, is this something I should prioritize as a first and get it done ASAP? My car is already in and technician suggests I do not drive the vehicle... I am worried they are trying to scare me into doing the work even though it may not be 100% necessary!

I have attached some photos, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

RE: 2013 VW Jetta Dented Transmission Pan
Personally I would be suspect of a firm price in that range before opening the job up for a full inspection. There may be nothing wrong internally but it's a good idea to pull the pan down and do a filter / service while replacing the old pan. What would that job cost? Prices will vary quite a bit in different areas of the country and with the quality of the replacements, but guessing $200 - $400 as a range. If there's further damage then that's something we can't see till the pan is off.

The flip side is about doing further damage. If the fluid is full, bright red, and it drives ok, then you'd probably be ok to take it for a second opinion over the next few days. I'm guessing the dent didn't happen yesterday so you've already been driving it quite a bit like that.

BTW, something few people think about is insurance. If the damage is due to hitting something in the road (collision) then you may have partial coverage on an expensive repair. Certainly worth a phone call if the price of repairs puts a squeeze on your wallet.

Let us know how you make out.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the help, I’ll take it in for an inspection and see what happens. I’ll also contact my insurance company.
